Word to PDF — how to convert .docx to PDF

We don't upload your Word files to our server. Instead, here is the safest, fastest free way to export a Word document to PDF using software you probably already have.

Method 1 — Microsoft Word (desktop)

  1. 1Open your .doc or .docx file in Microsoft Word.
  2. 2Click File → Save As (or Save a Copy).
  3. 3Choose a folder, then in the file type dropdown select PDF (*.pdf).
  4. 4Click Save. Your PDF is created next to the original file.

Method 2 — Word Online (free, in browser)

  1. 1Go to office.com and sign in with a free Microsoft account.
  2. 2Open or upload your Word document.
  3. 3Click File → Export → Download as PDF.
  4. 4Save the PDF to your device.

Method 3 — Google Docs (free)

  1. 1Go to docs.google.com and sign in with a Google account.
  2. 2Click the folder icon → Upload, and select your .docx file.
  3. 3Open the uploaded document.
  4. 4Click File → Download → PDF Document (.pdf).

Method 4 — Print to PDF (any operating system)

  1. 1Open the Word document in any program that can read it (Word, Pages, LibreOffice, WordPad).
  2. 2Press Ctrl+P (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+P (macOS).
  3. 3In the printer dropdown choose Microsoft Print to PDF, Save as PDF, or a similar option.
  4. 4Click Print/Save and pick where to store the PDF.

Why we don't host a Word-to-PDF uploader

Reliable .docx to PDF conversion needs the same fonts and layout engine that Microsoft Word uses. Free online converters often distort fonts, bullet lists, headers and tables. The four methods above use Word's own engine (or a faithful equivalent) and produce a perfect, identical PDF — for free.
