Remove blank pages from a PDF

Get rid of empty pages from a duplex scan, an extra signature page, or printer-inserted blanks. The tool below lets you type the page numbers to remove and download a clean PDF in seconds. Everything runs in your browser.

How to remove blank pages from a PDF

  1. Open the PDF and find the blank pages. Open the PDF in your normal viewer first and note the page numbers that are blank — for example, 4, 7 and the last page.
  2. Drop the PDF into the tool. Add the PDF here. The total page count appears so you can sanity-check the numbers you noted.
  3. Type the pages to remove. Enter the page numbers separated by commas, or use ranges like '4, 7, 10-12'. The tool validates the input and warns about pages out of range.
  4. Download the cleaned PDF. Click Remove pages. A new PDF with the blanks taken out is built locally and offered for download.

Common reasons pages end up blank

Duplex scanning of one-sided documents

If your scanner is set to duplex but half the pages are one-sided, every other page comes out blank. Type the even-numbered pages to remove them.

Reports with an empty 'this page intentionally left blank'

Common in legal and government PDFs. Removing those pages cuts the file size and stops them showing up when you print.

Signature pages you no longer need

After signing, sometimes you only need to send the contract body. Drop the PDF, remove the signature page, and forward.

Printer-inserted blanks at the end

Some printers add a final blank when 'print on both sides' is on. Removing it makes the PDF look clean for sharing.

Troubleshooting

I don't know which pages are blank

Open the PDF in your viewer's thumbnail panel — most viewers have one in the sidebar. Blank pages are obvious there. If the document has hundreds of pages, convert it to JPG with the PDF to JPG tool and scroll through the thumbnails in your file browser.

Some 'blank' pages actually have a faint scan mark

If a page looks blank but has a tiny mark from a dust spec, this tool will still remove it on your command. If you want to detect blanks automatically, that needs server-side processing — outside the scope of this browser-only tool.

Page numbers reset partway through the PDF

Some PDFs renumber pages (e.g. roman numerals for the preface). Always use the absolute page index — the first page is 1, regardless of what the document prints in the footer.

Output is the same size as the input

Removing pages reduces page count but not always file size — embedded fonts and images are reused by remaining pages. If size is the goal, also try splitting the PDF or exporting only the pages you need.
